Coding or recoding your BMW requires more than just a simple machine.you need software that can go into the layers of the various groups.
I bought this tool for use on my BMW. The unit allowed me access to the BMW specific codes and was easy to operate. I really liked it except for the fact that it comes loaded with version 1 software. It claims to be a 'Version 2' product.
I tried to access the link provided to download the version 2 software but found it not to work. I think it's important to be able to update software on a product such as this one so as to keep up with any relevant changes to current or newer models. I sent it back for a refund and purchased another product. I am not listing the name of that product since the censors here have already bounced my first review attempt. All I can say is do your own research. There are several brand specific scan.
Arrived 1 day before estimated arrival date. Un damaged packaging with one cable (clear housing) and one DVD-RW with INPA install files and cable drivers for BMW. Works great on my 2007 BMW 328i Sedan (E90) with an old laptop I had running Windows XP. I was able to clear the ELV counter with EDIABAS Tool32 to allow my car to start after it locked up when the battery died on me. I was able to register a new battery myself. I never thought I'd be saving $ with a BMW by running my own diagnostics rather than paying a dealer or independent mechanic to do it. You can also view live data of your car (Engine temp, oil temp, battery voltage, etc) as well as monitor shadow codes from any module in your car you'd otherwise miss with a generic OBD reader (which I also own).
I feel it easy to use with sensitive mental dome keys. With the tool, I can do start test, OBD2 function, DTC look up and data review. One click I/M readiness is great for quick emission related status checking.
It also has function multimeter measure the car battery voltage and the electric resistance. Besides testing vehicle circuit, I also can diagnose emission related problems with this tool, which is very convenient avoiding put myself into a messy situation with several tools in hand. It helps a lot on my new business. Liked it a lot. I bought this and has totally paid off. I haven't had a problem with it. Regardless of the first Reviewer say, the unit is pretty fast- it costs only 45$, it isn't $450 MATCO OBDII reader/scanner.It communicates with almost all vehicles, haven't tried it on all just yet, but for the ones I've tried it works like a charm.
It is super compact too. May be the only negative thing is that it is power dependent- it uses the power from the vehicle and once you unplug it, it loses the codes.Every mechanic in our shop has it and that's the first thing they use for code checkup and system ready stat.
Check.Hope this review is helpful.Regards.
